'Castles' - a beautiful Orkney property on Eday
Here for sale is a fantastic island home and business opportunity. ‘Castles’ is a registered farm set in 2.13 Ha. of land on the Orkney Island of Eday with a further 2.27 Ha. available if required.

‘Castles’ consists of a one bedroom fully modernised cottage with traditional stone built byres and workshops, a new 80ft x 40ft portal frame shed, a newly constructed stone built dwelling house designed to incorporate 3 en-suite letting rooms and a beautiful, secluded beach.

The first aerial photo shows the full extent of ‘Castles’ outlined in red and this would be my preferred sale. The new owner could live in the cottage until the new house was completed and could then sell the cottage or keep it as a letting cottage as I had originally planned to.

The second aerial photo shows the property split into three plots:

A guide to the beautiful Orkney Island of Eday
Eday is the most central of Orkney’s North Isles with at least one return ferry a day, seven days a week operated by Orkney Ferries to or from Kirkwall on the Orkney Mainland. There are also scheduled flights operated by Logan Air to and from Kirkwall on a Wednesday.

The island is about 6 miles long by 2 miles wide and has a growing population of about 150 which is about 30 people more than when I moved there in 2001. There are resident nurses on the island who run the surgery 6 days a week which a Doctor attends weekly. The school teaches children from pre-school to 12 years old and rarely has more than 10 children enrolled at any one time. There is also a community owned shop that sells everything you could possibly need, a public house that does meals and B & B that can be contacted at 01856 622303.

Eday is centrally situated among the North Isles of Orkney, 14 miles north-east of Kirkwall. Eday offers an excellent environment in which to live with heather clad moorlands, panoramic views over the sea and islands, sheer cliffs and sweeping beaches. The Island should especially appeal to those people with an interest in natural history, ornithology, wildlife, archaeology or someone just wishing to appreciate peace and tranquillity.

Eday is the perfect place to raise children, to retire to or to escape the rat race. There is virtually no crime what so ever on Eday and Orkney has one of the lowest crime rate in the UK, in fact life here is how life used to be in the ‘sooth’ 50 years ago.
